Strong Voices, Healthy Waters: Findings and Reform Directions Report

Dr Teagan Shields’ Strong Voices, Healthy Waters: Findings and Reform Directions Report has now been published.

This report captures the directions provided by First Nations peoples on how Australia's water governance framework can better align with the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

The review is continuing. It is examining how the Act operates, opportunities to improve First Nations water outcomes, and how it can promote the principles of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Today, the Independent Reviewer’s Interim Report was also published and is available on the Water Act Review webpage. A Have Your Say survey is available to provide feedback on the Interim Report (closing on 17 December 2026).
