Bush to Plate
Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation was honored to partner again with Great Southern TAFE for the Bush to Plate Career Taster Program, supporting Year 9 students from ASHS and NASHS to learn on Country, connect with culture, and explore future pathways.
Guided by proud Menang man Larry Blight, students returned to Country to learn about bush tucker, traditional food sources, sustainable harvesting practices, and the cultural knowledge connected to native foods. Guest artist Jessikah Woods supported students to reflect on their learning through creative expression, while guest chef Paul Yoda Iskov helped connect the ingredients and stories gathered on Country to food preparation and hospitality skills in the TAFE kitchen.
Across the program, students explored native ingredients including samphire, seablite, bloodroot, djubak and kummuck, then worked together to prepare and serve a three-course luncheon for invited guests. Their individual and collaborative artworks were also displayed, sharing their creativity, learning journey and connection to Country.
Thank you to Great Southern TAFE, Larry Blight Kurrah Mia, Jessikah Woods, Paul Iskov, Fervor Australia, ASHS, NASHS, and everyone involved in making this program such a meaningful experience for students, families and community.
