The Wadjemup Aboriginal Burial Ground (Burial Ground) is a place of profound cultural significance. It is the resting place of Aboriginal men and boys who were imprisoned on Wadjemup/Rottnest Island from 1838 to 1931. The Wadjemup Project will memorialise and protect this site in a respectful and culturally safe way, guided by the Wadjemup Whadjuk Cultural Authority (Cultural Authority) and Aboriginal communities across Western Australia. The project named Maaman Wirin Bidi (men’s spirit trail) is currently in construction and will honour the Aboriginal men and boys who remain under the sands of Wadjemup.
The Women's Ceremony Space Art Commission EOI provides information for a Senior Prominent Female Whadjuk Noongar Artist to provide an Expression of Interest for an artwork for the Women’s Ceremony Space for the Maaman Wirin Bidi – Men’s Spirit Trail.
