Mamang Maambakoort Marine Park
On behalf of the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation (WKSN AC) Board of Directors, I am excited to announce the Western Australian Government legally established the Mamang Maambakoort Marine Park today.
The WKSN AC will jointly manage the Marine Park with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) with the first Joint Management Body meeting early in 2025.
The WKSN AC would like to thank the Elders who worked hard on the development of the Marine Park’s Joint Management Plan and who shared their cultural knowledge to ensure Noongar cultural and environmental values will be protected for the future: Graeme Miniter, Carol Pettersen, Iris Kaye Woods, Ronny Gray-Forest, Murray Hodgson, and Darryl Eades.
The Joint Management of the Marine Park will protect Noongar cultural and environmental values for decades to come and create local jobs for Noongar people.
I would also like to thank the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar Aboriginal Corporation Staff for their commitment and hard work ensuring the Elders were supported in the development of the Marine Park’s Joint Management Plan and all of the other administrative work that they undertook with DBCA to establish the Marine Park.
Finally, I would also like to thank the staff of DBCA for their hard and often challenging work in the creation of the Marine Park and the Joint Management Plan. The WKSN AC look forward working in close partnership with DBCA into the future managing the Marine Park and other areas of Conservation Estate in the WKSN region.
The Wagyl Kaip Southern Aboriginal Corporation will advertise before Christmas calling for Expressions of Interest for membership of the Marine Parks Joint Management Committee.
Warmest regards
Jeanice Krakouer
