The WKSN AC Board of Directors has received a Dispute Notice that alleges our Corporation is not following the Rule Book under Section 15.2 (a).
The dispute alleges that people have been able to nominate to serve on the Cultural Advice Committee (CAC) without holding Cultural Authority, regarding Noongar Lore and Custom. Further that there has been no consideration for regional representation or ensuring representation across the Agreement Group families.
The Board agrees that the eligibility criteria for members of the CAC must be strengthened and have reviewed the Cultural Advice Policy.
The revised policy is written to ensure all candidates for election to the CAC are Elders who:
have Cultural Authority regarding Noongar Lore and Custom.
represent one of the wards of the region – Kaneang, Menang, Goreng, Wilman, and Wadjari.
have no close family members on the CAC, and
are not a director or employee of any other corporation in the Settlement.
As the Board of Directors believes it is important for the members to have a say in this matter, a General Meeting has been called.
