Nominations are open for the Cultural Advice Committee

Nominations for a position on the Cultural Advice Committee will open on the 11 August 2025. The committee will comprise of five (5) female members and five (5) male members, who are recognized, acknowledged, and respected by the WKSN community as Noongar Elders, with cultural authority.

Nominations will be assessed by the Board of Directors. If there are more eligible candidates than positions for each gender, an election will be held.

Eligibility criteria to service on the Cultural Advice Committee  

      Criteria

To be eligible for election as a Cultural Advice Committee member, an individual must:

(i)       Be recognized as possessing the cultural knowledge and authority in the nominated ward of Kaneang, Menang, Goreng, Wilman or Wadjari to fulfil the Cultural Advice Committee objects.

(ii)      Be recognised, acknowledged, and respected by the Noongar community as a Noongar Elder, with Cultural Authority.

(iii)     Be aware that cultural advice and decisions may include (but are not limited to) matters related to Noongar land, lore and custom, sacred material and places, cultural safety, custodianship, cultural securities, other cultural interests, and having the cultural capacity and authority to share knowledge of country: and;

(iv)     Be able to act with honesty, care and diligence, and in the best interest of the Corporation and Regional Noongar people.

      Persons not eligible to be appointed to the Committee.

An individual is not eligible for appointed as a Cultural Advice Committee member if the individual:

(i)       is a close family relative of any member of the Cultural Advice Committee, being parents, partners, siblings, children (or adopted children), nieces/nephews and first cousins..

(ii)      is younger than 60 years, unless they have no older close family relatives.

(iii)     is a director, or employee of the Corporation or the Central Services Corporation

(iv)     is a director, or employee, of another Noongar Regional Corporation:

(v)      is a committee member of any committee established in accordance with the Noongar Boodja Trust Deed, or

(vi)     has just served two consecutive terms on the Cultural Advice Committee.
