  • Salary $90,023 per annum + superannuation.

  • Annual salary increase every year based on CPI

  • Salary packaging (up to $15,899 a year, + meal/entertainment benefit of $2,650 a year).

The role

This is an exciting and varied role that will focus on supporting WKSN AC to implement, administer and activate the WKSN -DBCA Cooperative Management Agreement and the Mamang Maambakoort Marine Park Joint Management Agreements.

Reporting to and working closely with the WKSN AC Manager - Strategic Partnerships, the role will require a wide mix of Noongar, Government and non-government stakeholder consultation coupled with administration and project work.

You will be required to attend Cooperative and Joint Management Committee meetings, so the role provide exciting learning and career development opportunities. The job will require some overnight travel within the WKSN region. There is also potential for some travel to Perth and interstate.

This is a 50D position under the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 and WKSN AC will help build the capacity (if required) of the successful applicant. The job does require reasonable writing skills (emails etc) but you will be supported to grow your consultation and project administration skill sets.

The job will also include other duties related to environmental and Noongar cultural projects as required.
 

Location 

The position is based in Albany, with regular travel across the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region

Full time (37.5 hours per week). 

About us

WKSN AC represents the Noongar people of the Wagyl Kaip Southern Noongar region and is responsible for implementing the South West Native Title Settlement. The region spans Boyup Brook, Kojonup, Gnowangerup, Walpole, Denmark, Mt Barker, Cranbrook, Tambellup, Katanning, Jerramungup, Ravensthorpe, Hopetoun, Bremer Bay, and Albany.

Under the South West Native Title Settlement, WKSN AC has entered into Cooperative Management of the Conservation Estate (all national parks, state forests, conservation and nature reserves and marine parks) with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA). The Cooperative Management Agreement (CMA) has established the WKSN Cooperative Management Committee (CMC) made up of WKSN and DBCA members who provide strategic advice on the management of the Conservation Estate including protection of Noongar cultural values and sites, what national parks to jointly manage. Noongar employment and contracting, management planning (including for national parks and fire management) and access for Noongar people to undertake Customary Activities (hunting, fishing and camping).

The CMC meets four times a year and has also established sub committees to provide detailed advice on the matters listed above.

WKSN AC has also entered into Joint Management of the Mamang Maambakoort Marine Park (MMMP) with DBCA. The MMMP is located between Bremer Bay and Hopetoun. Under the MMMP Joint Management Agreement DBCA and WKSN AC has established the MMMP Joint Management Body who provide advice and make strategic decisions about the management of the MMMP including the implementation of the MMMP Management Plan, employment of WKSN Marine Rangers, protection of Noongar values and scientific research priorities.

Key responsibilities: 

  1. Attend the Cooperative Management Meetings and Joint Management meeting, providing briefings and administrative support where needed.

  2. Manage budget acquittals, implementation of annual plans, invoicing, and payment of expenses where appropriate.

  3. Seek and prepare grant funding applications and undertake the necessary reporting and reconciliation requirements.

  4. Contribute to cooperative arrangements with DBCA and other stakeholders (where appropriate) and arrange on country visits as necessary.

  5. Ensure all staff work respectfully and effectively with WKSN Elders to ensure Noongar cultural safety for staff and protection of Noongar cultural sites and values

  6. Other duties as required

Selection Criteria:

Essentials

  1. The ability to be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including writing briefings and funding applications and operational plans.

  2. An understanding of Occupational and Health and Safety practices and obligations.

  3. The ability to be able to use various computer applications (Excel, Word etc) and manage budgets, employees and meet grant funding acquittal obligations. .

  4. Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to, engage effectively with the broader WKSN Noongar community and to liaise with government and corporate stakeholders.
